Finance dept unearths Rs250m embezzlement at Multan accounts office

LAHORE   -  The Punjab Finance Department unearthed a massive embezzlement of Rs250 million by the district accounts office, Multan in refund of the revenue deposit.

According to the official spokesperson for the Finance Department, the issue came into the notice of Secretary Finance Iftikhar Ali Sahoo while inspecting the records and payments made to the Punjab Highways Department, Multan. It came into the notice that the Rs250 million was drawn by bogus claimants of Land Acquisition Collector, Punjab Highways Department, Multan. The embezzlement of the government revenue was started from the year 2018 and continued till to date when the matter was detected by the inspecting staff of the Finance Department/Provincial Treasuries Inspectorate. The fraud was made by the land acquisition collector of the Punjab Highways Department, Multan in connivance with the officials of District Accounts Office, Multan.

The preliminary probe and the process of the registration of FIR against the land acquisition collector, Punjab Highways Department, Multan and the staff of the District Accounts Office, Multan is underway.

Meanwhile, the main suspects involved in the fraud had been arrested by Anti-Corruption Establishment, Multan when they were attempting to flee abroad.

The official spokesperson stated that the detection was possible due to a vigilant eye on the working and inspection by the Finance Department under the leadership of Finance Secretary Iftikhar Ali Sahoo.
