Militants plan to target Chinese workers

PESHAWAR - Taliban militants are planning to target the Chinese nationals working on different development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). According to reliable sources, the law enforcement agencies have informed the government about the possible terrorist attacks on the Chinese nationals after the Ministry of Interior issued directives for strict security measures for these foreigners working in Pakistan. A communiqu by National Crisis Management Centre sent to interior department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Additional Chief Secretary FATA, Chief Secretary KP, Commandant Frontier Constabulary, Commandant Frontier Corps, and IG KP, also cautioned that militants were planning to target the Chinese nationals working at important projects in the province as well as the tribal areas. The crisis management cell has also directed the authorities concerned to take extra security measures after which the provincial government has decided to depute extra security personnel at the sites of different development projects for protection of Chinese engineers and other workforce. For the purpose extra police force, personnel of Frontier Corps and Frontier Constabulary besides Levies will be provided by the government. Directives for security plan for the Chinese nationals have been issued to the commissioners and Deputy Inspector Generals of all the seven divisions of the province. It is pertinent to mention that in the past too, Chinese engineers and workers who were working at the vital projects. including dams construction in the province were targeted by Taliban militants.
