Govt urged to review drug prices



QUETTA - Merck Pharmaceutical Chairman Dr Karl-Ludwig Kley has appealed to the government of Pakistan to review the drug prices otherwise it will affect the social activities of the company.
Talking to reporters in Quetta on Wednesday, he said that pharmaceutical companies had been appealing for long to the government to review the drug prices which are lowest in the world. “If the government does not revise drugs prices, Merck will be compelled to bring sharp cut on the funds allocated for social activities.”
He told the reports that the company distributed 150 million tablets in Africa for helping the patients fighting tropical diseases.
He said that Merck was a profit making company and after paying taxes and salaries it was impossible for it to distribute drugs among the poor patients or provide finances for their treatment.
