LAHORE - The Lahore High Court has been urged through a writ petition to cancel appointment of Dr Malik Hussain Mubashar as member board of governors of University of Health Sciences (UHS).
A divisional bench comprising Justice Nasir Saeed Sheikh and Justice Aminud Din will hear the case today (Thursday). The petition has been moved by Prof Naseer Ahmed through advocate Azhar Siddique.
The petitioner said Dr Mubashar’s appointment as member BoG had been made on political ground. He pointed out earlier the court had removed Dr Mubashar as UHS vice chancellor and his reappointment as member BoG was illegal and sheer violation of court’s order. He said with a view to accommodate Dr Mubashar he was immediately appointed as member board of revenue in violation of merit.
He said Dr Mubashar was not included in the list recommended by the health department for selection of members of UHS BoGs but the government picked him by ignoring the names of highly regarded and non-controversial persons. The petitioner said the provincial governor’s power to appoint member BoGs had been curbed by making an amendment in section 9(7) of the UHS Ordinance.
REPORT SOUGHT: The complaint cell of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought comprehensive report from sessions judge Chakwal about an incident wherein a father along with 24 men of his clan raped his real daughter and ex-wife.
Taking notice on news items, the LHC also directed sessions judge to apprise the court about steps taken by the local police along with his(judge) own comments in a week time. On November 23, Dilbar Khan, father of the girl (P), along with his 24 accomplices stormed the house of her daughter and kidnapped her and his erstwhile wife (D).
Plea against PU VC: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought report from the provincial government on a petition challenging appointment of the Punjab University’s vice chancellor, registrar and 63 other officials of the varsity for being reappointed in violation of merit and the Supreme Court’s judgments.
Justice Muhammad Aminud Din Khan issued the order and directed respondents to submit reply before the next date of hearing, which would be fixed by the registrar office.
SUMMONED: The Lahore High Court summoned copy of a notification issued by the federal government withdrawing additional tax on incoming calls to the country.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan passed the order on a petition moved by a Lahore based Local Loop Operator (LLO) Brain Telecommunication limited challenged the additional tax on incoming calls. As the court resumed hearing, a law officer appeared and informed the court that the government had withdrawn the impugned notification levying addition tax on incoming calls by expatriates to their relatives in the country.
