Sindh CM announces Rs 1m for Asif




KARACHI - Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has announced rupees one million cash award for M Asif for winning the world amateur snooker crown recently in Bulgaria, the president of the PBSA confirmed here Wednesday.
He said when he and the new world champions Asif called on Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on Tuesday on behalf of the chief minister announced the cash award would be handed over to Asif in his home town through the PPP head of Faisalabad soon.
M Asif after spending a hectic day here in the city left for his home town with the trophy on Wednesday.
Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif has already announced rupees one million for Asif. Alamgir Shaikh disclosed that Owais Muzaffar who was also present at the meeting with the minister on the occasion handed cash award of rupees 0.1 million to Asif.
He said the PBSA has requested Pakistan Sports Board to announce Rs 10 millions for Asif as per its policy laid down some time ago under which the sportsman winning a gold at regional or Olympics games would be given Rs 10 million. M Asif has won the world championship which is far greater than winning the gold medal at Asian Games, he added.
A number of persons have already announced cash for the new world champion. President of Sindh SBA Jamil Sakrani had already announced Rs 0.1 million when Asif reached the final. Javed Karim,the secretary of Karachi Club on behalf of the club has announced Rs 0.2 million and two years honorary membership for Asif. SVP PBSA Wahid Qadir has announced Rs. 0.1 million.
