QUETTA - Balochistan Home Secretary Asad Gilani and Provincial Election Commissioner Sultan Bazaid have said that the government has taken all appropriate measures for the conduct of transparent and peaceful local body election to be held on December 7 (tomorrow).

Addressing to a news conference jointly here, they said that the process of sending all the relevant material to the polling stations has started and as many as 50,000 security men would perform their duties on the polling stations to ensure peaceful conduct of elections.

Balochistan Chief Minister Spokesman Jan Muhammad Buledi, Public Relation Director Noor Khan Muhammad Hassani and Local Government Secretary Kazim Niaz were also present on the occasion.

Bazaid said the task given to them for the conduct of free and transparent elections would be accomplished, adding that as many as 7,000 candidates have submitted their nomination papers and many of them have been elected unopposed in various constituencies. He said that Pak-army would render its duties in accordance with the constitution and added that prior to this army has played a positive role in Awaran district for the rehabilitation of the affectees of district Awaran.

He said that ballet papers and staff have been sent to various districts for polling and helicopters and civil aviation authorities’ planes had been used for this purpose. He said that 9 districts were too sensitive; however, all the arrangements have been completed.

Speaking on the occasion, LG Secretary Niaz Kazim said that provinces were under constitutional obligation under article 32 to conduct local body elections in the pursuit of Supreme Court orders, adding, “We have completed all the preparations for the conduct of local body elections and we had started preparation in this regard since 2010.”

Balochistan Home Secretary Asad Gilani said that elections are held in the province in the pursuit of Supreme Court Elections and all other three provinces have kept a close watch over elections. He said that the elections are conducted on party basis in Balochistan and all the parties are taking part in them, adding that local body polls are more difficult than the general elections. He said that threats were also received from various areas but elections would be conducted at every cost. He said 19,000 personnel of Police, 16,300 personnel of FC and 5,500 personnel of army would be deployed during the local body polling.
