Asif, ISI DG separately meet PM on missing persons case

ISLAMABAD - Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt. Gen. Zaheerul Islam and Defence Minister Kh. Mohammad Asif held separate meetings with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, but the issue under focus in both these meetings was about the missing persons.
Sources aware of the deliberations of both these meetings informed The Nation on Thursday that the PM wanted the solution of the issue as per the satisfaction of the apex court, which is now a days hearing the case and pressing the government to present the missing persons before the apex court.
The sources further said that the PM during his meeting with DG ISI Lt. Gen. Zaheerul Islam asked him to furnish the list of persons in their custody before the court and satisfy the apex court on the matter.
The sources further said that the DG ISI informed the PM that they had already given the details of the persons in their custody to the apex court and the details of the persons apex court is asking for are not with them.
The sources further said that Federal Defence Minister Kh. Mohammad Asif, who remained in touch with the PM throughout the hearing of the missing persons case in Supreme Court through phone on Thursday, also shared similar information with the PM on the issue.
The sources said that Kh. Asif had informed the Prime Minister that it was a wrong impression that the persons Supreme Court was asking for are in the custody of ISI and said that most of these persons were in Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa in various detention centres and the provincial jail authorities could better give details about these persons.
The sources further said that the PM was perturbed over the issue of missing persons and wanted its resolution as per the satisfaction of the Supreme Court and in this connection he had given clear-cut instructions to both DG ISI and defence minister.
Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on Thursday.
They discussed the parliamentary affairs and national assembly session.
Meanwhile, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Rashad Mahmood also called on Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
The General apprised the Prime Minister about the professional matters of Pakistan Army.
