During a joint meeting of various religious and political parties held here, religious scholars demanded elimination of crime and immediate closure of theatres promoting “nudity and immorality under the patronage of influential political persons”.

Else, they threatened, Ulema, traders and common citizens would stage a sit-in and hold protest against such practices. “Police have completely failed to control crime. Criminal activities like theft, highway robbery and dacoity are being committed repeatedly everyday in the city,” said the speakers at the joint meeting held at Jamia Masjid Abu Hanifa with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Mushtaq Ahmad in the chair. The meeting was also attended by Jamaat-e-Islami’s Saeed Ahmad, Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan’s Nazim Hussain, JUI-F leader Abdullah Rabbani, Shahid Mehmood, Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat leader Ameen Mujahid, M Sarwar from Jamaatud Dawa and other scholars including Abdul Haee, M Aslam, Sanaullah, Abdul Rauf and Muhammad Ahmad.

The scholars condemned the promotion of nudity and immorality under the guise of stage plays. They also regretted that dacoits were committing broad daylight robberies while the police remain failed to trace the outlaws. They passed a resolution, demanding complete halt of the Nato supply to Afghanistan via Pakistan and drone attacks. Later, a delegation of the religious scholars met with ASP Circle Shafiq Siddiqi and sensitised him to the decision made during the joint meeting regarding lawlessness, drones and Nato supply. In reply, the police officer assured the delegation of conveying their demands to the high officials.

POPULARITY CLAIMED: PML-N leaders have claimed that his party leadership had steered the country out of crises and put her on the path to development and prosperity. PML-N Sadiqabad Tehsil President Abdul Razzaq and Shafiq Ahmad told the media that efforts were afoot to strengthen the party at all levels. They said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif were working round the clock to provide the people with basic facilities at their doorsteps. Therefore, on the basis of the six-month performance, the candidates nominated by the PML-N would win the local bodies elections, he hoped.

Separately, PML-N leader Azhar Khan Leghari said that the PML-N government will take steps on priority basis to eliminate dearness, unemployment and lawlessness from the country.

He said that the people’s problems would be resolved on priority basis. “Insha’Allah (if God Willing), Sadiqabad will be made an exemplary tehsil of the Punjab province. For this purpose, both the federal and provincial governments would disburse special funds to provide the people with the basic facilities at their doorsteps,” he said.
