LAHORE - The Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) has recommended amendments in Administrative and Disposal Act 1975 to make the board more powerful.

Talking to The Nation on Friday, ETPB Chairman Siddiqul Farooq said that the new amendments recommended would allow seeking magisterial powers from the authorities to improve the working environment of the board.

“A committee in this regard has been formed which will meet third time on Saturday,” he said, adding that this committee would also recommend amendments in the Act after every ten years. Farooq was of the view that re-structural improvements were also in the pipeline, under which the most suitable manpower would be deployed against the posts where junior officers were working.

He also said that an International Baba Guru Nanak University was also on the cards in Nankana district, where Defence-related discipline would be taught. 50 Acres land was also being granted to COMSAT University where 6000 students would be shifted, he added.

The ETPB chairman said that a Radio Frequency Identification system was being introduced for attendance of the staff.

He further said that the government firmly believed in protection of the religious places of minorities. “This was the reason that ETPB has resolved the issue of Amrat Jall (a holy water of Sikh community) and uplifting and renovation of Panja Sahib Hassan Abdal,” the chairman maintained.

He claimed that Rs50 millions was scheduled to be spent on the renovation and uplifting of Panja Sahib.

“1000 rooms would be constructed before April 2015 for the accommodation of Sikhs and Hindu pilgrims,” he informed this scribe.

Siddique said that a countrywide operation against land grabbers had been started and the ETPB land was being retrieved from the land grabbers.
