Rawalpindi - Police busted a gang of Afghan dacoits involved in several incidents of house robberies and street crimes by nabbing four of its members.

Police have also recovered two pistols of 30-bore, one pistol of 9mm, one revolver, 30 bullets, one UPS with battery, one auto rickshaw and one Honda CG-125 motorcycle from the possession of gang members, disclosed Superintendent of Police (SP) Potohar Division Ateeque Tahir at a press conference held at DSP Cantonment Police Station on Friday.

The gang leader and one of his accomplices fled to Afghanistan while efforts were being made to arrest them, the SP said. DSP Raja Taifoor, Station House Officer Police Station Race Course, Malik Yousaf, and other members of police raiding party were also present on the occasion.

SP Tahir said that the crime rate ranging from house robberies to snatching at gun point was up drastically in the areas of Race Course, Westridge, Naseerabad and Chuhur Chupal because of the Afghan gang. Taking notice on public complaints, the SP said a special team under the surveillance of DSP Raja Taifoor was constituted which busted the Afghan gang by arresting its four members during raids in different parts of the city.

The detainees have also confessed their involvement in more than 19 crimes. He added that police had obtained their physical remand from a court of law while further investigation was in progress in which huge revelations were being expected.

Responding to a query about walk chalking and posters pasted by members of ISIS in Taxila and its suburbs, SP Tahir said that police had registered a case against unknown accused and started investigation.

He added that the unknown ISIS people wrote on walls and displayed posters along GT Road. “We have also launched a search operation and soon the culprits would be arrested,” he claimed. He said that police beefed up security in Taxila to arrest the culprits.

The SP, while replying another question about filing a narcotics case against the cook of a martyred SSP Hilal Khan allegedly on pressure of two top cops of Rawalpindi police, said, “The matter is being interrogated and media would be updated soon in this regard.”
