The revised PC-1 of Walled City Project has been approved by the provincial government and the district government Multan has received funds for the launching of the project.

This was disclosed by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Zahid Saleem Gondal while talking to a delegation of architecture experts from Italy here on Friday. The project is being launched with the financial and technical assistance of Italy to revive and beautify the centuries old historical heritage of Multan. The DCO further said that Multan was the oldest living city of the world and thousands of years old culture was hidden beneath this town. “Keeping in view this historic importance of this city, the provincial government has decided to restore historic gates and buildings of Multan with the collaboration of Italy,” he added. He said that the residents of Multan would get a big gift in terms of restoration of historic buildings in their original shape. He lamented that the historic gates and buildings were becoming ruins because of lack of care but the project would revive their historic importance.

Earlier, addressing another meeting, the DCO said that the payment of compensation money to the flood victims would be completed in next two days. He declared that the government would give two animals to the owner or breeder against one killed by the flood. “The phase to give compensation to the owners of livestock will begin today (Saturday) and livestock department will give animals to the affectees of Multan district,” he added.
