ISLAMABAD-Eight players qualified for the main draw of men’s singles of the Second Benazir Bhutto Shaheed International Tennis Championship here at Islamabad Tennis Complex on Monday.

Major, Ahsan, Jibran-ul-Haq, Faizan Khurram, Jehanzeb Khan, Asadullahl, Ilham Khan, Mubarak Shah and Asad M Khan played superb tennis and outpaced their respective opponents in the final round of qualifying draw.

The international tennis championship will be conducted in the men’s singles, ladies singles, junior under-18 singles, boys’ under-14 singles and boys’ under-10 singles age categories. Draws of these categories were held in the presence of all leading players.

Top eight seed of the men’s singles are Aqeel Khan, M Abid, Yasir Khan, Shahzad Khan, Heera Ashiq, Mudassar Murtaza and Ahmed Chuadhry while top eight seed of junior under-18 are Muzammil Murtaza, Aman Atiq Khan, Asadullah, M Shoiab, Abdal Haider, Hamza Bin Asif, Sahibzada M Ali and Hafiz Arbab Ali.

In the men’s singles qualifying final round held on Monday, Major Ahsan beat Wajid Khalil 0-6, 6-4, 6-0, Jibran-ul-Haq beat Yaseen Abbasi 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, Faizan Khurram routed Zaid Mujahid 6-4, 6-2, Jehanzeb Khan downed Gul Zaman 7-6, 6-4, Asadullah thumped Ubaidur Rehman 6-2, 6-4, Ilham Khan thrashed Raja Shafaqat 6-0, 6-2, Mubarak Shah beat Adnan Rasheed 6-7, 6-1 6-1 and Asad M Khan beat Hafiz Arbab 6-4, 6-3. The main draw of men’s singles will start today (Tuesday) at 9:30 am.
