KARACHI - Body of another MQM worker with torture marks was found dumped in Pak Colony on Monday.

The man had been allegedly picked up by security agencies.  Waseem Raja, resident of Orangi Town, had been associated with the MQM. He was picked up by police from his workplace. His family said that Raja had been arrested by Mominabad police and that the police had demanded Rs100,000 for his release.

Pak Colony Police, which confirmed Raja’s arrest, said that he was arrested for keeping illegal weapons and that he committed suicide in the police lockup.

The MQM condemned what it called extrajudicial murder of Raja and called for an inquiry into his killing. A statement issued by the MQM said that so far 65 workers of the party had been killed in extrajudicial action under the Karachi operation. In a separate incident, gunmen shot dead a man, Umar-ur-Rehman, and fled. Police said that Rehman was standing near a cable office in the Frontier Colony in Orangi Town when gunmen ridding a motorbike shot him dead. Police suspect the murder was the result of a personal enmity. Also, the Rangers carried out a raid in North Nazimabad and arrested two MQM workers associated with the party’s Unit 134.

They were identified as joint in-charge Saleem and former unit in-charge Irfan. The accused were shifted to an undisclosed location for investigation.
