ISLAMABAD-Razi Badminton Academy (RBA) Monday organised a colorful ceremony to celebrate the International Day of United Nation for the ‘Persons with Disabilities’ at the Arid University, Rawalpindi.

As many as 40 male players from the twin cities, who were polio affected with upper and lower disabilities and some with hearing impaired, participated in the event. An exhibition badminton singles match was played between two polio affected players M Zeeshan and Baber Sultan which Zeeshan won 21-16.

Sharing his views, Member Board Brig (R) Syed Ahmed Sohail Pirzada, said Razi Academy’s players clinched a record 14 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals in consecutive participation of 23rd & 24th National Sports Festival for Special persons at Abbottabad. Former British Parliamentarian’s wife Mrs Miryana was the chief guest and distributed prizes among all the disabled players.

Addressing the ceremony, she said: “I am pleased with great inspirational efforts for disabled players by Razi Badminton Academy (RBA) head coach Raziuddin Ahmad. We will provide all technical support from England to his academy regarding disabilities.”

Marina Marouby of France admired the achievements of the academy here at National Festival for Special Persons 2015-16 at Abbottabad. She appealed to the national corporate sectors and world donors to impart their role and give hand in hand with the academy to encourage the disabled players to overcome on polio in Pakistan. “My country France will definitely be supporting the Razi Academy especially for disabled girls’ badminton and other sports.”

Razi requested the parents not to neglect their child and involve them in sports for their better health to get rid of polio likes disease. “The RBA is fully dedicated for the promotion of disabled badminton and other disabled sports.”

He congratulated the national disables community on this UN Special Day for Disabled. He also thanked foreigner guests for their precious assistance for the academy and for the cooperation of Arid University sports administration.
