ECP defers verdict on intra-PTI polls till 13th

ISLAMABAD - The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday again deferred its verdict on a petition challenging the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s intra-party elections till December 13th.

The ECP had delayed the announcement a week ago saying that the verdict will be given on December 5 as the panel of judges was incomplete.

A four-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retired) Sardar Muhammad Raza heard the case filed by the PTI’s Swabi chapter’s former general secretary Yusuf Ali on June 22nd.

Yusuf Ali had requested the ECP to declare the elections null and void as they “violated” the party’s constitution.

Likewise, the decision was deferred again for next hearing on Tuesday as the ECP member from Sindh, Abdul Ghafoor Soomro is currently abroad.

Justice (retired) Sardar Raza said that the verdict was being delayed due to the absence of an ECP member.

The decision will now be announced on December 13th.
