Inquiry report tampered with, claims PAT

LAHORE -  The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has raised questions on the authenticity of Justice Ali Baqar Najafi report uploaded on Punjab government official website.

A spokesperson for the party claimed that PAT legal team found major blunder in the Model Town incident inquiry report during its initial reading.

“It seems the Shehbaz government tampered with the report published on official website,” he told The Nation and pointed out the page 65 of the report mentioning a meeting on law and order situation presided over by Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. He said the meeting held on June 16, 2014 but the date mentioned on the report was June 16, 2017. How such a clear blunder could have been happened since Justice Ali Baqar Najafi himself compiled the report, he questioned.

“Sharifs track record shows they make blunders when they get unnerved. People remember the issue of calibre font,” he said.

Siddiqui said a large number of PAT workers will go to Punjab Civil Secretariat on Wednesday (today) to receive a verified copy of the report from Home Secretary and then will request the court to get the original report. After receiving both the reports (the original and verified copy), he said, the PAT legal team will analyse them and issue its final verdict.

“We will hold a sit-in in front of Civil Secretariat if Home Secretary refuses to handover the verified copy to us,” he said.

PAT chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri also raised the same points while talking to a local television talk show. He said clear mistakes were seen in the report uploaded on Punjab government website.

However, Dr Qadri earlier welcomed the Lahore High Court decision to order publication of the report and termed it a victory of justice.

Addressing a press conference at PAT headquarters Model Town, he said his party would announce its next strategy after thoroughly analysing the report. He said PAT leaders, workers and families of Model Town victims will go to the Punjab Civil Secretariat to receive the signed copy of the report on Wednesday.

The outspoken cleric vowed to take revenge of the Model Town incident which happened on June 2014 and resulted in killing of his 14 followers. He reiterated ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah were directly involved in the killing of innocent PAT workers.

He threatened to lead a mass agitation campaign if the government tried to create hurdle in the way of getting justice for Model Town victims in coming days.

“My workers are ready and my container is ready. All opposition parties will be with me on the container,” he said.

Dr Qadri said it took PAT three and half years to make public the report and they had faced numerous difficulties during this period.

He said truth and justice will soon prevail and all the powerful involved in the incident will be hanged to death.

Meanwhile, leaders of PPP, PTI, PML-Q, Jamaat-e-Islami, Majlise Wahdatul Muslimeen and other parties also welcomed the LHC decision against Punjab government.

PML-Q leader Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi said that Shehbaz Sharif and “gang” will not escape from legal grip and they will have to account for innocents blood of Model Town martyrs.
