Islamabad wants total halt to drones: FO

ISLAMABAD - Reacting to Washington Post’s story, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said Pakistan wanted a complete halt to US drone strikes instead of partial curtailment.
Talking to BBC on Wednesday, the spokesperson said Islamabad has long been asking the US administration to stop drone attacks being counter-productive, killing innocent citizens and a breach of Pakistan’s sovereignty.
She said though TTP had contacts with other elements outside Pakistan, yet they were Pakistani citizens and holding talks with them was Pakistan’s internal issue.
She further said that US must prove first the presence of any Al-Qaeda leader inside Pakistan. Tasneem said world community had recognised that drone hits were detrimental. She also referred to the United Nations resolution wherein many objections were raised about the legality of these attacks. She said Obama in his State of the Union address had admitted that drone attacks were counterproductive and Pakistan welcomed this statement.
