PESHAWAR - Komal Khan defeated Laiba Ijaz in a thrilling 3-1 final of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Squash League played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex on Monday.
Khyber Union of Journalist (KUJ) senior vice president M Naeem was the chief guest on this occasion. Former world champion Qamar Zaman, former Peshawar Press Club (PPC) president M Riaz, KP Squash Association executive committee member Sher Bahadar, Wazir Gul, Nazim Nawa Khali Sajjad Khalil and a large number of players and spectators were also present. Before the start of the final, all the players, spectators and guests observed a minute silence to pay rich tribute to the martyred of Kashmir. In the tough final, Komal and Laiba gave each other a tough fight in the marathon four-set battle. Pakistan No 1 U-19 champ Komal faced tough time against Laiba in the marathon set, where both were stretched to 14-12. The set was tied at 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 8-8, 9-9, 10-10, 11-11, 12-12 and thus at the end won the set by 14-12.
After winning the first set, Komal failed to click in the second set won by Laiba with her score 8-11. When both were tied 1-1 at the set tally, this time Komal won the third and fourth set 11-9 and 11-9 to march as victorious.
With the victory against Laiba, Komal won all her nine matches. Laiba won eight matches after playing nine matches of the league, followed by Nimra who won six matches and lost three, Hira, Zuhara, Sana, Kalsoom, Eman, Manahil, Mehvish, Erish, Zahra, Kashmala, Zareen, Warisha, Kainat got position in the league. Each of the participants played nine matches each.
