Rape victim’s family up against police dillydallying

KHANEWAL - The RPO Multan headed the JIT set up to probe Zainab case in Kasur but he appears either to be oblivious to or least bothered to take notice of the rape of his daughter.

Atta Hussain, father of Irum Rani, a rape victim, stated during a protest against the incident and police failure to arrest the culprits despite lapse of more than a week.

The family members and relatives of the affected girl, a student of seventh class, who was allegedly kidnapped and raped on her way back home from school, protested against the police, chanting slogans against police for its dillydallying to arrest the accused.

The protesters regretted that despite lapse 11 days, the police failed to make headway in the case. They also flayed a senior police officer for terming the incident a result of personal enmity. They asserted that police instead of consoling the family with the arrest culprits, adding salt to their pain.

It to be noted that January 25, two robbers stopped a school van at gunpoint, robbed female schoolteachers and kidnapped a girl Irum Rani. They took somewhere where they raped her and later threw her in local fields.

According to locals and civil society members, this is a brutal incident, which has enhanced sense of insecurity among parents and female staff going to schools and different offices.

They were of the view the incident exposed that the district is an easy target for incidents like this. Atta Hussain Hiraj demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of this incident.

On the other hand, the district police claimed to have constituted an investigation team, being headed by DSP Headquarters Naeemul Hassan Babar and consisted of three Inspectors. According to the team head, strenuous efforts are being to trace and arrest the accused involved in the incident.
