LAHORE - At least two PPP workers were injured when an iron fence collapsed on them near the stage.

They were rushed to hospital by Edhi ambulances.  A rescue worker said one of the injured was shifted to Mayo Hospital.  Another Pakistan People’s Party worker, identified as Mumtaz, was admitted to Nawaz Sharif Hospital. The condition of the injured was said to be stable.

Hundreds of policemen heaved a sigh of relief after the PPP rally at Mochi Gate ended peacefully late on Monday evening.

Heavy police contingents were deployed in the Walled City area to guard the venue. Special police units continued armed patrol for hours on main routes.

The participants of the rally were given three-layer security with strict physical searches involving metal detectors and walkthrough gates.
