RAWALPINDI - In continuation of the Chief Minister's Special Programme for Healthcare, District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) Rawalpindi has started providing free treatment to poor kidneys' patients. The four-bed Dialysis Unit was jointly inaugurated by Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Health Task Force Chairman MNA Malik Abrar Ahmed, member MPAs Shehryrar Riaz and Chaudhry Sarfraz Afzal alongwith Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Khalid Iqbal Malik during a ceremony held at DHQ here on Monday. The dialysis centre was constructed with the cost of Rs 3.7 million by government of Punjab. While addressing, DHQ MS Dr Khalid said that the CM Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif is taking keen interest in provision of basic health facilities to all and this project was completed due to CM's personal interest. He said that this free of cost dialysis facility would be given to those patients who were admitted in the hospital as well as in emergency whereas fee has been fixed for the OPD patients. "At early stage, three doctors have been appointed at Dialysis Center and a summary has been forwarded to Punjab government for recruitment of 70 to 80 staff on daily wages for the period of six months which would perform their duties in three shifts" told MS. He said that CM has issued the instruction to the Provincial Finance Department for approval of Rs7.8 million for this purpose. CM Health Task Force Chairman MNA Malik Abrar Ahmed, speaking on this occasion, said that recommendations for the confirmation of temporary doctors and paramedic staff have been sent to the CM Shahbaz Sharif and their implementation is expected very soon. He said that a patient had to pay Rs 4000 for one time dialysis and added that CM, therefore, was suggested by party men for annual grant of Rs220 million to run the Dialysis Unit in order to provide better healthcare facilities to the deserving patients "A Burn Unit would be built soon in DHQ after selection of proper place" MNA Malik Abrar said. He informed that a proposal is on the cards of provincial government to include the space of adjacent cinema house in the hospital. CM Health Task Force Member MPA Shehryar Riaz was of view that the step of abolishing of parking fee by CM Mian Shehbaz Sharif from the Allied Hospitals given a benefit to the vehicle owners.
