ISLAMABAD Top Seed Aqeel Khan clinched the mens singles title of 26th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships by beating his younger brother second seed Jalil Khan in straight sets 2-0 here at Dilawar Abbas Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue on Tuesday. Aqeel Khan claimed the double crown also. In the first set, Aqeel Khan took the winning lead 3-1 by breaking 4th game of Jalil and then won the first at 6-1. Jalil was erratic in the first set and a number of his return went out. Meanwhile, in the second set Jalil Khan took the winning lead 4-2 by breaking second and fourth game of Aqeel.. In the next game, Jalil played excellent game from the base line and broke the 8th game of Aqeel and build up the lead 5-3. Aqeel fought back and levelled the score 5-5 by breaking 9th game of Jalil and the score reached 6-6 as both the players held their respective serves. At the tie break, Aqeel was in excellent form and played mixed game and won the tie break at 8-6 and the title. Muhammad Airf Qureshi ITF White Badge Umpire chaired the match. Aqeel completed the century of national events. Aqeel Khan got winning trophy along with cash award of Rs.45,000 whereas Jalil Khan pocketed Rs.30,000 as runner up. A total number of 177 players participated in the five different categories of mens singles, ladies singles, junior u-17 singles boys u-13 singles and mens doubles. An amount of Rs.250, 000 prize money was distributed among the winners and runners up. All the out station players provided free accommodation along with daily allowance. Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakharani, Federal Minister for Sports, was chief guest and distributed the prizes among the winners. He also announced to build the three synthetic courts as contribution from the sports ministry for the promotion of game of tennis in country. President Pakistan Tennis Federation Senator Syed Dilawar Abbas presented a memento to the honorable chief guest. Secretary Sports Anis-ul-Hussain Mossvi, Director General Pakistan Sports Board Syed Amer Hamza Gillani, Brig. Khalid Sajjad Khokhar SVP PTF, Shahida Farooq Kousar, VP PTF, Major Rashid Khan Secretary PTF and large number of tennis fans witness the finals and prize distribution ceremony.
