ISLAMABAD Chief Election Commissioner Justice (Retd) Hamid Ali Mirza announced on Tuesday that by-election on NA-55, Rawalpindi, would be held on February 24. A statement issued by the office of Election Commission of Pakistan said that the date for filing appeals against the decision of returning officer regarding acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers was January 25. Nomination papers have already been filed and the scrutiny process is completed, and the revised schedule shall recommence from January 25 with filing of appeals. Date for decision on these appeals has been set for January 31 as February 1st would be the date for withdrawal of candidature. Final list of candidates will be published on February 2 and polling in this constituency will be held on February 24. The aforementioned NA seat has been lying vacant since the PML-Nawaz MNA Haji Pervaiz Khan tendered resignation.
