LHC amazed to know DSP is an ‘old’ PO

LAHORE – The courtroom of Justice Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan of the Lahore High Court was stunned on Thursday when it heard that a DSP (deputy superintendent of police) was a proclaim offender in police record of the Gujranwala circle. It was further learnt that the cop was still performing his ‘professional’ duties in Faisalabad.
Justice Khan was hearing a bail petition filed by DSP Rashid Mahmood Sindho, who prayed that he was wrongly fixed in a case register with the Noshehran Virkaan Police Station on the application of Haji Abbas and his daughter Tallat Abbas under Section 155-C of the Police Order 2002.
As the proceeding started, advocate Syed Tahir Ahmad, counsel of Haji Abbas, revealed that DSP Rashid Mahmood “is a PO for the last many years”. The counsel added that the cop was hurling life threats to his clients. He argued the DSP was using his influence in order to register fake cases against his clients. He further argued despite arresting the offender DSP, the IGP has posted Mr Sindho as SDPO at Civil Lines Police Station of Faisalabad.
He requested the court to turn down the bail application because many cases have been registered against the DSP in different police stations of Gujranwala city.
The court, however, adjourned the hearing till Jan 12 because Sindho’s counsel was not available for arguments.
The court asked the both parties to come for final arguments on next date of hearing.
Meanwhile, the Civil Lines police on Thursday told the Lahore High Court that a case had been registered against three police officials, including former and serving senior clerks, of the Lahore CCPO’s office on charges of embezzlement in the department.
Civil Lines SHO Muhammad Abid told this before Justice Mamoon Rasheed. The SHO also submitted a copy of FIR registered against commandant police (National Volunteers) Muhammad Younas Toor, ex-senior clerk Muhammad Niaz and serving senior clerk Ayub Hashmi. Former commandant police (National Volunteers) Sheikh Iqbal had filed a writ petition alleging that the respondent officials committed embezzlement in funds for daily-allowances and uniforms.
He said an additional district and sessions judge had ordered the police to register case against the respondents but the order had not been complied with.
Justice Rasheed had sought explanation from the SHO for not obeying the court’s order. The judge disposed of the petition after the compliance report of civil line police.
tricky SHO, SI: The Lahore High Court on Thursday ordered Gujranwala Regional Police Officer to take action against Rehmania Police Station’s SHO and a sub-inspector for playing tricks with the court.
Justice Ijaz Ahmad had summoned the SHO Rafaqat Ali on previous hearing of a petition seeking registration of a criminal case.
However a SI Khalid Javed appeared before the court and stated that the SHO was not available due to cardiac disease.
On Thursday, the SHO appeared and told the court that he had minor throat infection thus failed to appear on last hearing. Justice Ahmad took serious notice of conflicting statements of both officers and observed that they were trying to deceive the court.   He directed the Gujranwala RPO to take action against both officers under Police Order and submit compliance report.
