ISLAMABAD– PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has said that the Army was not interested in dislodging the government and the establishment was encouraging politicians to join a particular party, a veiled reference to Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf.

In an interview with a private TV channel, Nawaz Sharif said they have concrete proof that the establishment was encouraging the politicians to join that party.

He said he did not meet ISI Director General and Chief Justice of Pakistan. He said he was confident that the judiciary would not deliberately dismiss the government. However, he said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Ch Nisar Ali Khan had been meeting the Chief of Army Staff in the national interest.

The PML-N President said he had moved Supreme Court on the memo issue after getting disappointed from the Parliament. He called for thorough investigation into the memo issue as it relates to national security. He said he was not opposed to creation of new provinces on administrative basis and was in favour of Hazara province. He warned against creation of provinces on linguistic basis, saying if this was done situation would go out of hand.

Nawaz said budgets of armed forces and intelligence agencies should also be debated and approved by the Parliament. He said the government has failed to resolve people’s problems and asked the government to hold fresh elections at the earliest.
