Banned outfit’s member, his guard killed

LAHORE – An alleged member of a banned outfit and nominated accused in a murder case and his gunman were shot dead and two others sustained multiple bullet injuries shortly after their rival group sprayed indiscriminate firing on them near Carol Ghati area of Gujjarpura Police on Thursday.
They deceased were identified as a 35-year-old Hafiz Tariq Muavia, an alleged member of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and his 25-year-old gunman Shoaib Akram. According to details, Hafiz Tariq of Baseen village had gunned down his rival Arif Butt of the same village in 2010. Police investigators said that Hafiz Tariq was a nominated culprit in that case but he was on bail these days.
They said on Thursday he along with his two gunmen namely Shoaib Akram, Saleem and a driver Ashfaq were going for a hearing to the Session Court. But, when their car reached near Carol Ghati, at least four men equipped with automatic firearms appeared on the scene and sprayed several bullets on the car. “I think, Hafiz Tariq died instantly while his one gunman Shoaib succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital,” an eyewitness Shabir said.
SP (Operations) Civil Lines Police Division Omer Saeed Malik told reporters that some 12 bullets had pierced into various parts of Hafiz’s body, which claimed his life on the spot. Seconds after the incident, local shopkeepers shut down their shops and panic gripped the area over this violent episode of crime.
