ISLAMABAD - Minister of Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh on Thursday briefed the Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) about existing economic situation especially its impact on the Pakistan-US relations.

The minister of finance, the secretary of finance and secretary economic affairs division were present in the meeting and they briefed the committee about the current economic situation, Chairman PCNS, Mian Raza Rabbani told media after meeting in the Parliament House. “After the briefing, the committee deliberated upon the facts and figures presented by the minister,” he added.

Raza Rabbani said the draft of the recommendations would be given final shape for submission to the prime minister and the joint sitting on the Parliament thereon. He informed that the committee will have final meeting with the minister of foreign affairs and the minister of defence or secretary of defence on Tuesday.

Responding to a question, he said the ministry of finance presented the factual position of the economy before the committee. They (the finance minister and his team) also shared with the committee various figures of the economy in the wake of war on terror, he said. To a query, he said the committee had asked the financial team to present existing position of the economy and its dependence on the US, European Union (EU) and other countries. The committee will incorporate all these facts into its recommendations, he added.

He made it clear that all the recommendations will be finalised keeping in view the supreme interest of the country and priorities of the security.

The meeting was attended by Senators Wasim Sajjad, Dr Babar Awan, Ishaq Dar and members of the National Assembly, Munir Khan Orakzai, Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and Syed Haider Abbass Rizvi.
