ISLAMABAD - The national database is a national asset and a special system has been implemented to ensure security of the data and even the local and provincial governments do not have access to it. A NADRA spokesman stated this in a statement on Thursday.

The spokesman said that neither any country or foreign authority had access to the database nor the authority had provided any information to them. “NADRA’s database is highly secured and allegations published in a report claiming that the national registration authority has given access to US are totally baseless,”said the spokesman. He said an extremely fool proof system was put in place which is reexamined and strengthened from time to time. No individual not even the high-ups of NADRA have any control to change the procedure of security.

He said today NADRA ranked amongst the top 50 system integrators of the world who are involved with identity management systems. Data security is part of NADRA’s expertise and the authority puts special emphasis on state-of-the-art technologies. NADRA has won international projects through open and transparent bidding due to highly secure database and technology.

Resultantly NADRA has participated in rollout of Civil Registration System for Sudan, Kenyan Machine Readable Passports, Bangladesh Driving Licences, Poverty Score Card for World Bank and Afghan Refugees database for UNHCR.

He urged the local media to avoid publishing baseless news items as it affects NADRA businesses and credibility over the world, it would serve no purpose and damage the credibility of the country.
