LAHORE– Lahore Justice Ahmad Farooq Sheikh on Thursday referred a writ petition to Chief Justice seeking record of Pakistan People’s Party registration with election commission of Pakistan, office bearers and notification of Senator Babar Awan reportedly issued by President Asif Ali Zardari as vice president of the party.

Justice Farooq observed that since a similar matter was already pending in the court of Justice Muhammad Khalid Mehmood Khan, therefore, the instant petition might also be fixed before the same judge.

Petitioner-lawyer Afaq Ahmad said the President Zardari had not issued notification about the nomination of Babar Awan as vice president and Awan had himself drafted the said notification and is using it despite the strong reservations of PPPs’ senior leaders.

He alleged that Awan was trying to hatch a conspiracy against the President Zardari by stating that he (president) had nominated him as vice chairman because the President could not participate in political activities after the LHC dual office judgment against him.

Mr Ahmad has made secretary general Jahangir Badar, chairman PPP Patriot Makhdoom Ameen Fahim, secretary information PPP Qamar Zaman Kaira and Babar Awan as respondents in his petition.

He prayed to issue directions to respondents to submit the record of notification of Awan. Petitioner has also requested to direct authorities concerned to submit details about office bearers of PPP and PPP Patriot, and the registration of parties with Election Commission of Pakistan.
