Talks only if militants quit terror activities, says Bilour

SWABI - Senior Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Bashir Ahmad Bilour Thursday said the provincial government would make some vital amendments to the local government system, following which the local bodies election would be held.
He was talking to media persons here at a rest house after addressing a public meeting in district headquarters. He said Awami National Party government constituted a committee for this purpose, adding that making amendments, the government was in favour of holding elections to completely restore the local government system. He said he was the committee chairman and all the vital recommendations would be finalised very soon. Rejecting the opponents’ claim that ANP government devised a plan to delay the local government election, he said after necessary amendments the government would move ahead according to the wishes and expectations of people.
He also said when the ANP assumed power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Talibanisation was in full swing in the entire Pakhtun region. “The provincial government was facing a lot of problems due to the ongoing wave of militancy but the government stuck to its policy of peaceful coexistence and initiated dialogues with the Taliban,” he said.  The government held parleys and concluded peace agreements with the militants but despite that they challenged the writ of the government.
He said the government finally launched an operation and succeeded to wipe out the militants from Swat valley and other disturbed regions of Pakhtuns.  He said former leader of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan Baituallh Mehsood warned the ANP government to step down or face the force of the Taliban.
