QUETTA - At least four people, including a personnel of security forces, were killed in an armed attack on Quetta-bound Jaffar Express in Machh area of Bolan district, some 45 kilometres southeast of Quetta, on Saturday.

According to Levies sources, Jaffar Express was heading towards Quetta from Rawalpandi and was passing from Paner area of Machh, when armed men from nearby mountains opened indiscriminate fire on the train with sophisticated weapons. Resultantly, four people, including a personnel of security forces, were killed. “The locomotive and a bogie of the train were damaged in the attack, whereas 10 people received injuries,” the sources said.

When contacted, Assistant Commissioner Machh Kashif Nabi confirmed the attack on Jaffar Express and said that several people were wounded in the attack. However, he did not confirm the number of casualties. No group claimed responsibility for the attack till filing of this report.

It may be mentioned here that several attacks were carried out by Baloch militants on trains particularly in Bolan district in which many people, including securitymen, were killed and injured. Meanwhile, a government official and his son were killed and his daughter wounded in a firing incident in Panjgur district on Saturday.

According to police officials, Muhammad Yousuf, a sub-engineer of the Building & Roads Department, was on his way along with his son and daughter, when unidentified armed men sprayed bullets on his vehicle in Garamkhan area. As a result, Yousuf and his son, Mehboob Ali, died on the spot, while his daughter sustained multiple bullet wounds. The attackers fled the scene, however. A police party rushed to the site and took the bodies and the injured to a hospital.  “Yousuf received minor bullet injuries and his death actually occurred due to a heart attack when he saw his young son and daughter in a pool of blood,” the officials said while quoting doctors, adding that the incident seemed to be a case of targeted killing.

“Investigations are underway to ascertain the motive behind the attack,” said the officials. No group claimed the responsibility for the attack. A case has been registered against the unidentified attackers.

Meanwhile, a body was recovered from Kech district, while a rocket was fired in Zhob district by unidentified miscreants.

Levies sources said the body, found from an abandoned area of Dasht Kadan, was shifted to a hospital for medico-legal formalities. The victim was identified as Mir Jan.

He had been severely tortured before being killed about four days back.

A case has been registered against unidentified killers and investigation is in progress.

Meanwhile, a rocket, fired by unidentified people from an unknown area, landed in Bypass area of Zhob with a huge bang. Luckily, no loss of life or damage to any property was reported.
