LAHORE – Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) President Dr Tariq Mian on Saturday demanded the establishment of College of Family Medicine on the pattern of developed countries.

Addressing inaugural session of three-day Familycon conference organised by PAFP, he also demanded establishment of family medicine department at medical institutions besides holding refresher courses for the family physicians.

Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Health Kh Salman Rafiq inaugurated the session on the behalf of Shahbaz Sharif. Prof Javed Akram, Prof Anjum Habib Vohra and Prof Mehmood Shaukat were prominent among the senior medics.

Dr Tariq Mian also stressed on the need to strengthen referral system of patients from primary level heath facility to the tertiary care institutions in order to facilitate patients and reduce unnecessary burden on the teaching hospitals.

He said that drugs’ reaction incidents were taking place due to partially functional Punjab Health Care Commission. He said by activating the PHCC, the government can easily eliminate quackery and misuse of life-saving drugs by the mafia and drug addicts.
