ISLAMABAD - Wapda clinched the inaugural PPL/PTF Trophy 2013 after thrashing Punjab 2-0 in the final here at the Senator Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex on Saturday.

In the first singles final, Pakistan No 1 Aqeel Khan displayed powerful tennis from the baseline and eliminated Heera Ashiq in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. In the second final, Yasir Khan defeated Khurram Nazir 6-4, 3-6 and 6-0.

Islamabad team won the third position by beating HEC 2-0. In the first singles match, Ahmed Ch beat Usman Ejaz in a well-contested two-set match 6-2, 6-4 while in the second match, Haseeb struggled hard to win his encounter against Saad Mubarik in a thrilling two-set match at 6-2 and 7-6(2). Wapda won the PTF trophy along with cash award of Rs 40,000 whereas Punjab got Rs 25,000 along with runners-up trophy. Islamabad earned bronze medal along with cash award of Rs 15,000 and certificates.

Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) organised this event which was played on Davis Cup format. In all, 12 units with almost 60 players from various units of the PTF participated in the championship. The PTF provided accommodation to all outstation teams and paid traveling fare and dailies to the provincial teams.

Air Vice Marshal Syed Razi Nawab grace the occasion as chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners while PTF patron Syed Dilawar Abbas and Sultan Maqsood from PPL were also present on the occasion.
