Rawalpindi - On behalf of business community, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) awarded cash prize and trophy to Superintendent of Police (SP) Rawal Division Karamat Ullah Malik and his brave team for eradicating the menace of extortion from Rawal Division area of the city.
RCCI President Syed Asad Mushadi gave a cheque of Rs 50,000 and a trophy to Malik and commendatory certificates to other team members during a ceremony for handcuffing the extortionists who have been threatening the traders and business community in the city, informed RCCI spokesman here on Monday.
The cops who obtained cash prize and recognition certificates included SP Karamat Ullah Malik, ASP Behram Khan, DSP Sardar Babar Mumtaz, SHO Allah Yar Malik, SI Mazhar, ASI Mazhar Qadri, ASI Mehbubul Rehman, ASI Khalid Yar, Head Constables Ejaz Ahmed, Shakil Chiragh and Constables Imtiaz Ahmed and Khalid.
Besides the business community, the ceremony was also attended by Regional Police Officer (RPO) Umar Akhtar Hayat Lalayka and City Police Officer (CPO) Humayun Bashir Tarar, he added. The business community also appealed to Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif to award prize and certificate to SP Malik for his daring and stern action against extortion mafia and purging the city from them.
Addressing the ceremony, Syed Asad Mashhadi said that masses criticised police over shortcomings but they forgot to appraise the department over its tremendous achievements. He said that police should be rewarded for its success and RCCI would continue these kinds of ceremonies.  
He said that the police team led by SP Karamat not only arrested the wanted criminals of extortion and theft cases even from Karachi but also made complete recoveries from the criminals. He said that public trust in police force was a vital element for institution’s better performance. He said that the whole department should never be blamed for the wrongdoings of some black sheep.
The RPO lauded RCCI for the good gesture and said that police department was always criticised for misconducts but its success stories were never recognised in such a way. He termed the step of RCCI a unique idea to boost the morale of not only officers but lower ranks as well. Assuring the commitment of public service and safety, the RPO said that no compromise would ever be made in this regard. CPO Humayun Bashir Tarar also showed his commitment to curb the criminal elements and ensured traders his full support.
