Agreement inked for Dual Carriageway Project
KARACHI (PR): A ceremony was held on at Sindh Chief Minister House to sign the financing agreements for the Karachi Thatta Dual Carriageway project. The agreements were signed by the senior representatives from the Government of Sindh (GoS), Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and the banking syndicate comprising Dubai Islamic Bank Pakistan Limited, Meezan Bank Limited and MCB Bank. The impressive ceremony was attended by Honorable Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah; Sindh Finance Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah; Director General FWO, Major General Muhammad Afzal;various provincial Ministers, Advisers, and Secretaries, and representatives of FWO. The banks were represented by Zubair Haider Shaikh, Group Head CIBG, Dubai Islamic Bank Pakistan Limited; Syed Amir Ali, Group Head, Meezan Bank Limited; and MCB Bank.
The Government of Sindh intends to improve the existing National Highway N-5 (Karachi-Thatta) by developing a 49 Km long section between Gaghar Phatak and Thatta bypass into a Dual Carriageway. The Frontier Works Organization (FWO) shall design and construct the dual carriageway within the construction period of two years, and it is also required to operate and maintain the dual carriageway through the life of concession period – 25 years.
The cost of Project is PKR 8.85 Billion (approx.)and the banking syndicate has extended a Long Term Islamic Finance facility of PKR 6.2 Billion for this project. The commercial operations of the project are expected to commence by the end of 2017. The Project will be developed through a Public-Private Partnership program of Government of Sindh.
Addressing the ceremony, Zubair Haider Shaikh said that the financiers are grateful to the FWO and Government of Sindh for giving them the opportunity to cater to their financing requirements for this project under the Islamic mode of financing. He said that they would be keen to take part in other future projects as well. It is pertinent to mention that this is the first ever Islamic mode of syndicated project financefacility for the infrastructure development project of GoS.
He wished for the successful project implementation and acknowledged with deep appreciation the dedication and excellent cooperation of the teams at the GoS, FWO, and the banking syndicate of Dubai Islamic Bank PakistanLimited, Meezan Bank Limited and MCB Bank Limited. It is pertinent to mention that Dubai Islamic Bank Pakistan Limited has also the role of the Agent Bank for this transaction.
TEVTA certificate distribution ceremony
Lahore (Staff Reporter): Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) is organizing certificate distribution ceremony to the pass outs of Light Transport Vehicle (LTV) driving course today (06-01-2016) at Highways and Motorways Police Training College, Sheikhpura. Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif will be the Chief Guest at this occasion.
Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that a number of 1200 participants have been trained during the first phase of the training program. This course has been started at 36 Road Safety Training Institutes (RSTIs) with the collaboration of National Highways & Motorway Police across the province of the Punjab. 2nd phase has also been started to train the youth in the said course. During training, they have also given training including awareness of road safety measures, safe driving, hygiene, manners to talk, computer, Arabic speaking and basic information about vehicle & engine.
