LAHORE - The Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) welcomed the doctors for their new academic session yesterday.

PGMI principal Prof Khalid Mahmood, on the occasion, urged the students to take keen interest in discussions, seminars and research activities. He said that promotion of research culture in medical sector could go a long way in creating a healthy society.

Prof Mahmood also stressed that the doctors serving abroad should share their experience, knowledge and research with their Pakistani fellows to help them serving nation more efficiently.

PGMI is offering 47 degree courses with 24 basic clinical departments, he said, adding that the institute was providing specialisation facilities to the students from across the country and neighbouring Iran and Afghanistan. Renowned neurosurgeon and ex-principal PGMI Prof Anjum Habib Vohra also addressed the ceremony.

MINISTER VISITS HOSPITAL: Minister for Labour and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar visited Social Security Hospital Shahdara yesterday.

Commissioner Punjab Employees Social Security Institute (PESSI) Mansoor Qadir also accompanied him.

The minister visited various departments including OPD, medical store and Admin section. He checked attendance of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff and cleanliness arrangements and provision of medical facilities.

Raja also checked stock of medicines in the store and directed MS Dr Arif Sohail Rana to ensure availability of life-saving drugs.

Later, the minister distributed admission letters among selected children of the secured workers with full fee concession who got admission in the attached medical colleges of PESSI for MBBS Session-2015-16.
