More than 600 illegal transformers sale and repair workshops are functioning in district Kasur allegedly with the connivance of Lesco officials.

These workshops are a safe haven for people and staffers involved in buying, selling and repair of dysfunctional transformers and electric cables. Dysfunctional transformers are sent to these illegal workshops for repair where genuine parts including expensive copper wire is allegedly replaced with substandard material.

Often the Lesco line superintendents heavily charge the consumers for early resumption of power supply otherwise it takes days and sometimes weeks to get the transformers repaired.

Many people complain that the linemen concerned and line superintendents are involved in power theft, line losses and overbilling which not only causing huge financial losses to the Lesco but also adding to consumers’ miseries.

Most of the sub-divisions have political back-ups where line superintendents are working as SDOs.

Prominent personalities of the district have claimed that they have demanded the government to take notice of the corruption on such a large scale to provide uninterrupted power supply to the citizens of Kasur.

When contacted, Lesco Kasur SE Circle Muhammad Latif Anjum assured early crackdown on corrupt elements and their business spots. “We have already installed a good number of new transformers and hopefully people will not have to go to corrupt Lesco officials for the resolution of their grievances,” he claimed.
