MULTAN/HAFIZABAD/LAYYAH/SHEIKHUPURA

The workers of PPP celebrated 88th birthday of the party founder and former prime Mmnister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto with traditional fervour across Punjab here on Tuesday.

In Multan about a dozen cake-cutting functions were held by the jiyalas in different areas of the city. The PPP workers did not forget to exhibit the traditional jiyala culture on this occasion as chaotic scenes were observed when they turned the tables in attempt to get the cake.

According to details, the major event was organised by the PPP South Punjab chapter at the residence of Muhammad Akram Kanno District President, where Secretary General of South Punjab Riaz Basra, former Judge Habibullah Shakir, Khawaja Rizwan Alam and other leaders joined the cake cutting ceremony. Similarly, other arms of PPP including women wing, PSF, People’s Lawyers Forum, People’s Unity of PIA, Kisan wing and Ulema wing also organized birthday functions.

The speakers paid glowing tributes to the PPP founder Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, saying he made labourers, farmers, workers, and have-nots conscious of their rights and also how to get these from the elite who were an embodiment of their exploitation. They added that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto granted the people of Pakistan a right to vote on the basis of adult franchise for the first time and now parliamentarians were directly elected by them unlike in the past when they were elected by the Basic Democracy members or councillors who constituted the Electoral College.

Speaking on this occasion, Riaz Basra said Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto gave a constitution to the nation that had secured the federation of the country despite many ups and downs since then. City organisation of PPP also cut the cake at the residence of M Saleem Raja.

In Hafizabad, glowing tribute was paid to Late Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti by the speakers at a function held here at Sir Syed College to celebrate his birthday.

PPP local leaders including Muhammad Arshad Mehind, Pir Muhammad Safdar Kharal, Malik Shoukat Hayat Awan and Al-haj Zahid Farooq said that ZAB had not only united the nation but also played an important role to unite the Muslim world on one platform by organising Islamic summit in Lahore after the debacle of East Pakistan. They called upon the PPP leaders particularly Bilawal Zardari Bhutto to revive the glory of PPP by following the vision of Late ZAB to resolve problems of the peasants, workers and downtrodden masses who are passing miserable lives due to wrong policies of the rulers.

In Sheikhupura, the 88 birth anniversary of the founder of PPP ZA Bhutto was celebrated across the district with great zeal on Tuesday.

The birthday cake was cut at local office PPP which was attended by large number of jiyalas and leaders. The speakers including PPP district president Asif Khan, Akram Naaz, Chaha Aslam alias Bhutto and others said that late Bhutto was a progressive and democratic leader and was known across the globe for his vision for the prosperity of the downtrodden class. “Had he alive today the menace of lawlessness, terrorism and other bottlenecks would not have been prevailed in the country. The speaker urged the gathering to follow the principles of great leader to face the challenges being posed undemocratic and anti-state elements.

In Layyah, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) office bearers and workers pay tribute to ZA Bhutto on his birth anniversary. PPP Tehsil President Dr Javed Iqbal Kanjal, City President Shaikh Khurram Tariq, City President Kot Sultan Dr Khalil Ahmad, Muhammad Anwar, Ghulam Abbas Bhutta and many others pay tribute to ZA Bhutto. They pledged that the workers would complete the mission of Shaheed ZA Bhutto. The workers also offered Fateh to the martyrs of democracy.
