KHYBER AGENCY: The officials of FATA Education Foundation (FEF) has trained teachers of 45 private schools for providing psychological and social help to school children of FATA.

A two-day training entitled as "Psycho Social Support Skills" concluded last day, which was organised by FATA Education Foundation in collaboration with UNICEF. Teachers from various private schools who returned to their homes in recent past were trained to execute the skills and techniques during teaching in the best interests of the children. Hashim Khan Afridi, Deputy Managing Director FEF, Manager Planning and Development, Javed Khan Afridi, Assistant Manager Muhammad Uzair, Additional Director Education Department FATA, Abbas Khan and others were also present on the occasion.

Deputy Managing Director FATA Education Foundation, Hashim Khan said that the aim of psycho-social support skills training was to train private schools teachers and impart them education with regard to mental problems.

He added that teachers would teach the children who passed through critical mental condition during the last few years in militancy-hit tribal areas.

The teachers, he said, could play key role to take school-going children out of trauma and bring them to normal life after distress condition so that traumatised children get themselves involved in education activities. "It is a pilot project and the department is pondering over to extend it to entire tribal agencies in future," he claimed.

He said the department had limited resources and the reason why it arranged the training with support of UNICEF. Afridi remarked that FATA Education Foundation had been functioning under public private partnership, saying it had been authorised to work on strengthening of private education institutions along with government institutions. An official of FEF while sharing statistics on the occasion said that some 180 teachers would be trained in this regard and that they would share their skills and knowledge to children. "I see more talent and competency in our children as compared to other parts of the country, but unluckily, they are greatly suffered in insurgency in Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency," said General Secretary of Private Schools Association, Asghar Khan.

He claimed that they would try to bring minor students out of shock by making effective use of skills they got in training. He opined that the teachers should keep focus on improving mental level of children so that they could get themselves engaged in educational activities once again.

Another teacher of private school, Qasim Khan said they knew the problems of children after repatriation in schools and the training needed for rehabilitation of them.
