According to the officials, in 2013, the then Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) Administrator Tajjamal Abbas Rana had announced the establishment of a grand Tea House in Sialkot, the native city of Poet of The East Allama Iqbal and Faiz Ahmed Faiz. The plan was aimed at providing a place for local poets, novelists, literary critics, educationists and other literary persons to sit together and share their thoughts and experiences to promote literary activities in Sialkot. However despite the lapse of three years, no progress could be made to implement the project by the Sialkot TMA, exposing the apathy and indifference on the part of the officials concerned.

The Sialkot TMA has already completed proper work for the establishment of the grand Tea House in Sialkot but the plan remained confine to the documents only.

When contacted, the officials of Sialkot TMA avoid comment on the issue. Local literary circles of Sialkot have expressed grave concern over the critical situation. They feared that the project has fallen victim to traditional red-tapism.

They urged Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Additional Chief Secretary Khawaja Shumail Ahmed, Sialkot DCO Dr Asif Tufail and Administrator Sialkot TMA Adnan Mehmood Awan to look into the matter and ensure early establishment of the Tea House in Sialkot.
