KARACHI  - Pakistan People’s Party Karachi division on Friday observed the 90th birthday of party founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and vowed to follow in his footsteps in order to guide the country towards the path of progress and prosperity.

The event to celebrate the 90th birthday was organised at PPP Karachi secretariat where party leaders including Central PPP Leader Latif Khosa, PPP Karachi division President Saeed Ghani, Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza, PPP Karachi General Secretary Javed Nagori and others addressed the event.

Latif Khosa said that Asif Zardari proved himself as the real son-in-law of the Bhutto as he strengthened the democracy and devolved the powers to the prime minister under 1973 constitution.

“The one who hanged Bhutto is nowhere in history instead Bhuttoism has become an ideology and even 100’s of Khan’s and Sharifs could not compete his approach,” he said and asked PPP workers to bring forward the ideology of Bhutto for the betterment of the society and country.

Khosa said that even today the epic center of Pakistani politics is around Bhutto and most of the incumbent politicians copy him and if he would be present here then US would not have dared to threaten Pakistan. “Henry Kiesinger had termed Bhutto as having best leadership qualities,” he said adding Khan calls for bringing change but it was Bhutto who brought a real change.

Bhutto gave right to the masses and empowered them at a time when the country was ruled by 22 powerful families, he said.

PPP Karachi President Saeed Ghani said that people had to depart but there are some who are remembered forever and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto were amongst these people.  “It was Bhutto who gave religious freedom and served the masses in short span of time,” he said.

The PPP Karachi division president said that even after 39 years , the constitution given by Bhutto is a real hope for the country and enabled the country to lead towards becoming atomic power.

He was not killed for personnel enmity instead he was martyred for giving rights to the masses. “The anti-people forces should now understand that killing Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto had led nation towards a wrong path,” he said. He asked the PPP activists to promise to support Bilawal Bhutto as no party had a leader like him. Nawaz Sharif is playing with the country’s interests for his personal gains, he said adding that PPP had sacrificed its leadership, hundreds of activists along with several others including Asif Zardari imprisoned without guilty but remained committed with their cause and the country.

Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza said that they are proud of had a leadership like Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and despite being hanged his ideology was still alive.

She said that the foreign policy devised by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was exemplary and in current situation, his absence is badly felt.

“Bhutto had opposed the involvement of the country in foreign wars including the Afghan war,” she said adding that the incumbent rulers are incompetent and even unable to acquire F-16 planes from the Unites States.

She said that Bhutto is loved by the farmers and labourers as he had worked for their rights and for the first time introduced land reforms in the country.

She said that Bhutto was a real leader who died with his people instead of Nawaz Sharif who preferred to run away from the country after NRO with military rulers.

“Nawaz could only win elections through ROs but could not make his place in the hearts of the people,” she said.

PPP Karachi General Secretary Javed Nagori said that Bhutto was not only leader of Pakistan but also for the entire Islamic world.

“If the country would be led on the vision of Bhutto then it could not have come in such a situation,” he said adding that PPP had always opposed the radicalism approach of the state and it was this approach that had led the country towards this situation.

He said that they were against the military interventions in politics but not against the army. “Instead it was Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto who had strengthened the hands of armed forces and lead the country towards a nuclear power,” he said.
