Islamabad - Islamabad traders Friday announced to hold a complete shutter down on January 23 and march towards the Parliament House to protest the police action against the I-10 traders.

President All Pakistan Anjuman e Tajiran and Traders Action Committee Ajmal Baloch while addressing a protest said that Islamabad Deputy Commissioner and SSP used brutal force against the peaceful traders of 1-10, which is highly condemnable. He demanded the Prime Minister to take notice of the incident and suspend both officers.

All Pakistan Tajir Ittehad President Kashif Chaudhry said that traders of capital are very worried about the tenancy laws. He said that rent laws are very obsolete and anti-traders. He said that new and balanced rent laws were in the process and until those laws are not approved, local administration should not vacate shops. Islamabad traders have been demanding introduction of a proper tenancy law since long.

During the previous PPP regime, the then minister for law Babar Awan took steps to resolve the issue but the problem had not been fully addressed. Traders say when a trader starts his or her business, the owner signs a two-year rent agreement with him or her. However, when the business starts flourishing, the owner increase rent without any proportion.

The traders are blackmailed that if he or she will not pay exorbitant rent as per demand of the owner he will vacate the shop. Due to this unjust attitude the traders has been complaining of insecurity since long. Traders claim that MNA Mian Abdul Manan and Asad Umar had presented a private bill in the National Assembly regarding rent control in the federal capital, which has been approved by the concerned standing committee and the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration.

After approval from Parliament the bill will become a law.

Traders appealed to the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to arrange urgent passage of amended rent control bill from the Parliament.

Office-bearers and representatives of nearly all local markets were present in the press conference, who fully endorsed the decisions announced in the press conference.
