LAHORE - PEPCO MD Tahir Basharat Cheema has said that different electricity projects in Balochistan are underway which would resolve the menace of loadshedding within next two years. He said that in Balochistan only 48 per cent consumers are paying their electricity bills, whereas 52 percent of it is being counted in pilferage. He stated this while addressing a conference held here at WAPDA House on Monday. The MD met the representatives of provincial government of Balochistan regarding matters related to security issues and new power projects during his visit to Quetta. He informed the meeting work has been completed on Dadu-Khuzdar 220-KV double circuit-line, the project would be completed by June 2011. However, the work on Dera Ghazi Khan- Lora Lai 220-Kv is underway, which would generate 220-MW additional electricity for the consumers of Balochistan. While giving the details of sabotage activities, MD PEPCO has said that PEPCO has suffered losses over Rs 700 million in Balochistan due to 188 sabotage activities of blowing up electricity pylons. Explaining the energy conservation plan, Tahir Basharat Cheema said that PEPCO is saving 1000-MW electricity per day. Pakistan Electric Power Company is saving around 1,000-MW as a result of ongoing energy conservation campaign through closures of markets by 8 pm and the load management announced by the govt out of which more than 500 MW is being saved from Punjab only. Presently PEPCO is providing electricity to over 19 million consumers across the country through its 8 DISCOs (distribution companies). He also mentioned that the tough time is over now and situation is turning to normalcy. The situation will be eased out further with the forthcoming moon soon season. MD PEPCO also said, that Pakistan Electricity Power Company (PEPCO) is aware of ongoing energy crisis and is taking all possible measures to overcome the persistent power shortages in the country as well as the sabotage activities in Balochistan and is having a close look at conservation and load management along with elevated steps to bring relief to consumers in short, medium and long term perspective in the better interest of the nation.
