Justice Shakirullah Jan in his remarks during the hearing of petitions challenging various clauses of the 18th Constitutional Amendment in Supreme Court on Tuesday said the Chief Justice has no role in new process of appointment of the judges. A 17-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry is hearing petitions challenging the 18th Amendment. Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja during the hearing asked Hamid Khan Advocate why you have objection over inclusion of the people's representative in the process of appointment of the judges. Hamid Khan continued his arguments and said that for appointment of judges consultation with the judiciary is necessary. The process begins from the judiciary, he said.
