PM desires stronger ties with US

ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has desired to further strengthen Pakistan-US partnership for the peace, progress and prosperity at the regional as well as global level. Prime Minister Gilani expressed these views at a ceremony organised to mark the 235th Independence Day of United States at the residence of US Ambassador Anne W Patterson here on Monday evening. Towards this objective, we have been working together to build a sustainable, broad based, long-term relationship through the mechanism of the Strategic Dialogue, Gilani said and added that the Pak-US Strategic Dialogue had set in motion greater opportunities for the mutual benefit of the people of the both countries. We are looking forward to the visit of Secretary Clinton, later this month, to take this process forward through the next round of dialogue, scheduled to be held in Islamabad, he added. The PM further said, As we deal with this challenge, we are encouraged by the support provided by the US and other friendly countries. The Prime Minister extended the heartiest felicitations of the people and Government of Pakistan to the US Ambassador and American nationals present in the celebration of the 235th Independence day of USA. I also congratulate the government and people of USA on this occasion, he added. US Ambassador Anne W Patterson termed Pakistan and the United States as very committed friends and assured that the US would extend its full support and cooperation to Pakistan to improve the living standard of people. Appreciating the sacrifices of Pakistan Army and other security personnel in the war against terrorism, Patterson said, We are partners in this war and we will fight this war through joint efforts.
