ISLAMABAD - The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) based inflation surged to 15.18 percent during the last week over the same period of the last year, Federal Bureau of Statistics reported on Monday. According to the figures, the SPI-based inflation for all income groups has recorded at 15.18pc in the previous week over the corresponding period of the last year. The inflation for lower middle-income group (Rs 3,001 and Rs 5,000) enhanced by 14.65 percent. Meanwhile, it increased by 14.52pc for the lower middle-income group (Rs 3,001 and Rs 5,000), while the SPI-based inflation enhanced by 14.88pc for the income group (Rs 5,001 to Rs 12,000). The maximum impact of SPI increase during the last one year has been observed for the high-income group earning more than Rs 12,000 per month, which rose by 15.73 percent. The inflation increased by 0.64 percentage points for the low income group during the week under review, against the previous week, while the inflation increased by 0.62pc for the income group (Rs 3001 to Rs 5,000), and it rose by 0.62 percent for the group earning Rs 5,001 to Rs 12,000 per month). The SPI increased by 0.54pc for the higher income group earning more than Rs 12,000 per month. Out of the samples of 53 kitchen items, prices collected from 25 urban centers, 16 items showed increase in prices, 11 items registered decline and the prices of 26 items remained unchanged as compared to the previous week. Economist believed that the inflation would further go up in the next few days, as on one side, the Govt increased the electricity tariff, while on the other hand, 1pc hike in the GST would accelerate the inflation. The prices of the main items that registered increases are potatoes, soap, garlic, sugar, gur, chicken eggs, onions, red chillies, gram pulse washed, vegetable ghee loose, salt, wheat average quality, moong pulse washed and rice basmati broken. Meanwhile, the prices of following items were decreased in the last week including tomatoes, diesel, banana, petrol, masoor pulse washed, LPG (11kg cylinder), kerosene oil, mash pulse washed and mustered oil.
