Nationalists urged to drop opposition

KARACHI - Hundreds of thousands of participants of an online poll, ran by the Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) on its official website, voted in favour of the construction of Kalabagh dam for a better future of the country.Having put in the public domain, the issue of Kalabagh dam gained massive support, with 89 per cent voters favouring its construction out of a total 192,865. The results of the month-long online poll has not only provided an indication of the mood of the across the country but will also set the trend for such elections on this matter of public importance, when the country is faced with energy shortfall. According to the MQM-H vice-chairman, his party conducted the poll to know public opinion about the construction of the Kalabagh dam that was bitterly opposed by the nationalist parties in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Shamshad Ghori also urged the nationalist parties to accept the opinion of the Pakistani people, and asked them not to oppose the construction of the dam in larger interest of the nation.He asserted that Kalabagh dam was essential for development and progress of Pakistan, arguing that with its construction, electricity could be provided on economical rates and the industry would grow at a fast pace.The MQM-H leader was of the view that Kalabagh dam was necessary for stability of Pakistan and to resolve the present energy crisis.  Without giving any name, he alleged that opponents of Kalabagh dam obtained Rs5 billion every year for continuously opposing its construction. He deplored that thousands of textile and industrial units had been shifted aboard because of insecurity and shortage of electricity in the country, while this closure also prompted massive lay-offs. LNHMC TRAINERS’ WORKSHOP: The research help enhance the academic capabilities as well as sharpen the mental faculties,this was stated by the Medical Director of the Liaquat National Hospital, Dr Salman Faridi. He was speaking at the concluding session of the two-day trainers’ workshop, says a statement on Thursday.It said that the moot was organized by the Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College (LNHMC) Karachi on the theme of “Advanced Hemostasis in Surgery”. A spokesman of the hospital said that this is the first live animal workshop conducted in Karachi. It was supervised by the masters trainers from abroad who demonstrated the latest hemostatic techniques on live animals. This workshop was conducted at the state of the art “Research and Skills Development Centre” at LNHMC which is a purpose build facility to conduct such kind of activities and has an operation theatre and animal testing lab. Spread over four sessions, the workshop provided a personalized experience to the participants who had a hands-on  opportunity to the latest techniques and their benefit. The dos and don’ts of hemostasis and the hemostatic principles were discussed in depth and in detail providing a well rounded theoretical as well as practical experience. This workshop was attended by participants from all over Pakistan and is first of its kind ever conducted in Karachi.Dr Salman Faridi also called for the promotion of the research activities. He was of the view that the young doctors be apprised of the latest advancements in the medical field.
