PESHAWAR - A month-long ICMS Junior Squash summer coaching and training camp kicked off Saturday at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex and over 50 players in under 8, 10, 12 and 14 turned up to the camp.
The camp is being held under the auspices of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association. On this occasion, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) central joint secretary Zubair Elahi was the chief guest who formally inaugurated the camp.
Chief camp commandant and former world champion Qamar Zaman, ex-president of Peshawar Press Club M Riaz, coaches Mehboob Khan, Sajid Khan, Kamran, Gulab Sher, Fazal Shah, and trainer Nazir Khan (PAF) and players were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Qamar said that like in the past, this year the association had decided to hold the squash summer camp in four different categories. He disclosed that during the summer training and coaching camps league matches would be organised in all the four categories that would enable the boys to play more than 10 matches besides going through rigorous physical training and exercising.
He said through holding of the camp, the children who didn’t have competitions would find training and coaching under qualified coaches free of cost. He also thanked Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association chairman and director Institute of Computer and Management Sciences (ICMS) Malik Tajam Hayat for extending all-out support in holding the camp.
In his speech, chief guest Zubair Elahi lauded the efforts of the association for involving youngsters at grassroots level. “The players are reluctant of hardworking that is why Pakistan has been going down in the world of squash.”
