ISLAMABAD - Around 104 orphans at Pakistan Sweet Home Islamabad were rushed to the twin cities’ hospitals when they fell ill after consuming substandard food on Sunday morning.

The children started excessive vomiting and went into partial unconsciousness soon after they took breakfast.

The children were taken to PIMS, Holy Family Hospital and Polyclinic. Most of the children were suffering from gastro, food poisoning and loose motion.

All the child specialist doctors and paramedical staff were called in owing to high number of affected children.

At least 60 food poisoned affectees were taken to Holy Family Hospital Rawalpindi while others were rushed to Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS) Hospital and Polyclinic.

Meanwhile according to Pakistan Sweet Home, the children had consumed bread and tea for breakfast. They said the condition of the children was better and they will be discharged from the hospitals shortly.

Sources at the Sweet Home said the children started feeling uneasy after taking breakfast.

All but four children were later discharged from the hospitals after preliminary treatment while those a bit serious were still in the hospital.

The condition of all those still admitted was stated to be stable.

Meanwhile, police officials from I-9 station obtained samples of the breakfast given to the orphans at Sweet Home for examination purposes.

According to the Sweet Home Media Coordinator Umar Hussain, all items for daily breakfast have been outsourced and nothing is prepared at kitchen.

The items for breakfast that are provided by a company on a daily basis are bread, milk and cake, he added.
