RAWALPINDI - All-round performance by Afzal Javed and brilliant batting by opener Mohsin Ali helped National Press Club (NPC) XI thrashed District Coordination Officer (DSO) XI by 10 wickets in an exhibition T20 floodlight match played at newly-constructed Muslim High School ground on late Saturday night.

It was the inaugural match played on that particular ground after it was constructed with a hefty amount of Rs 40 million and fully equipped with modern facilities and world class floodlights.

DCO XI skipper Sajid Zafar Dal along with AC City Tasneem Ali started proceedings and took the score to 50-0 in 8 overs. Shakir Ababsi then broke the deadlock and provided breakthrough to NPC XI. DCO XI then kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and DCO XI was bowled out for 107 runs in 15 overs. Tasneem Ali top scored 46 and DCO Sajid made unbeaten 18 and Abdul Rehman 13. Afzal Javed was pick of NPC XI bowlers as he grabbed 4 wickets while Shakir got three, Shakeel Awan two and Afzal Butt one.

Mohsin Ali and Afzal Javed started for NPC in greta style and took only seven overs to achieve the required target. Mohsin punished DCO XI severly and hammered unbeaten 63 hitting 7 sixes and four boundaries while Afzal Javed slammed unbeaten 38 hitting 3 sixes and three fours. Chief guest Hanif Abbasi awarded winning shield to NPC skipper Afzal Butt.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest informed that 11 mega sports projects were almost near to completion in the city. “Five cricket grounds equipped with floodlights and state-of-the-art pavilion, changing rooms and other facilities are completed and ready to host all kinds of cricket events. The remaining six projects will be completed by September this year, which include five practice pitches at Rawal Road. Already cricket academy started at Muslim High School. We will provide facilities to all the players of Rawalpindi without any discrimination and they can utilize facilities without paying anything.”

I am also thankful to DCO Sajid Zafar Dal for providing funds, Muslim High School, Jammia High School, Viqarun Nisa College and others who provided space where we constructed the stadiums. We will soon conduct a high-profile event on all the venues simultaneously,” Abbasi concluded.
